A Perfect Day

Jackson Hole Airport

Town Square Arch
Our flights today were perfect, even security was not a hassle. The plane into Denver arrived 15 minutes early giving us enough time for a sandwich in the airport.  As soon as we finished eating the flight to Jackson Hole was boarding.  The airport is actually in Grand Teton National Park so we had a beautiful view of the mountains from the parking lot.  It was a nice drive into the town of Jackson which is really small, but quaint.

Million Dollar Cowboy Bar
We did a quick tour of the town of Jackson.  Ida is pictured here in the Antler Arch in the town square.  The elk shed their antlers naturally and the square has four of these arches made of antlers.

The weather today was really warm.  Tomorrow will be cooler, but we are enjoying it while we can.

Snow King Mountain

Our hotel is the Snow King Ski Resort at the edge of town.  We have beautiful views of the mountain and pool from our balcony.  It must be beautiful in the winter with the snow although they told us today it can get as cold as -40 in the winter.  The mountain has a couple of chair lifts and an alpine slide.
Happy Trails
Bar-T-5 entertainment
We started out in real Western style tonight, going to the Bar-T-5 Covered Wagon Cookout.  They loaded us in real covered wagons and took us on a winding trail along a creek to a camp in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. On our way back through the forest it was pitch black and much cooler.  The Capital Christmas tree will be coming from this forest to Washington in December 2010.

Of course, we were attacked by Indians along the way.  At the camp we had barbecue chicken, roast beef and gravy, and baked beans.  The tour group was from all over- Wales, England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Japan and all over the states.  We met some really nice people and had a great time.

There was a cowboy show with western music. Their final song was a beautiful rendition of How Great Thou Art.
